Tuam Education Centre Maths Competition
Tuam Education Centre’s Maths Competition for 5th and 6th class primary school students took place on Tuesday 10 November in the Ard Rí House Hotel, Tuam. The quiz master was Mr Cammie Gallagher, former Maths teacher at St. Jarlath’s College, Tuam and former Assistant National Coordinator for Project Maths.
The winners of this year’s competition were Athenry Boys’ National School with an excellent score of 20 out of 26.Director of Tuam Education Centre, Aidan Burke, welcomed Cammie as the presenter of this quiz. Aidan stated that “the aim of the management committee of Tuam Education Centre for this quiz is to develop mathematical thinking and reasoning rather than solely working on formulae and computation. It was a really exciting event and is part of Tuam Education Centre’s response to the Department of Education and Skills National Strategy to develop children’s numeracy skills.”
Aidan Burke also thanked Ashling Kelly (Administrator, Tuam Education Centre) for all her hard work in liaising with the schools and her organisation of the event. Twenty six schools competed in the event this year and it is hoped that this number will increase next year.
The Ard Rí House Hotel, Tuam sponsored a magnificent trophy for the winning school. Tom McHugh presented the trophy to the winning school. Plaques were presented to the winners on the day.
The next event on the Tuam Education Centre calendar is the Primary Debating Competition in the New Year. Fifteen schools have alreadyentered this competition. The competition is now in its third year.

Third Place: Barnaderg National School. (Back) Ashling Kelly (Tuam Education Centre),
Aidan Burke (Director, Tuam Education Centre), Tom McHugh (Ard Ri House Hotel)
and John Flattery (Principal).
Fourth Place: Lavally National School. (Back) Ashling Kelly (Tuam Education Centre),
Aidan Burke (Director, Tuam Education Centre), Tom McHugh (Ard Ri House Hotel)
and Tommy Greally (Principal).

Tuam Education Centre is delighted to announce details of an exciting maths table quiz for 5th and 6th class primary school students. The quiz takes place in the Ard Rí House Hotel, Tuam at 9.30 am on Tuesday 10 November.
